Nets For Building 3D Shapes

A net for a three dimensional shapes is nothing but a sort of skeleton - outline in 2- dimensional which, when folded, results in three dimensional shape. In order to understand this let us performs the following activity:

Activity:

Step 1:  Take a card - board box.

Step 2:  Cut the edges of the box.

Step 3: Lay the box on a flat surface.

We get a net for the given card - board box.

Thus, we can say that a net for a three dimensional shapes is a two dimensional shapes that can be cut out of a piece of paper or a card - board such that by folding it the three dimensional shape can be formed.
